What a Quote about Black Raspberries! December 03 2015, 0 Comments
When there are so many studies being done on black raspberries each year, sometimes we find great research that we didn't bring enough attention to when it first came out. This study on the Antioxidant Capacity and Phenolic Phytochemicals in Black Raspberries gives a great overview of some of the reasons why black raspberries are a uniquely healthy berry!
Check out this quote:
“Black raspberries are an excellent source of antioxidants in the human diet. With 10 or more times the antioxidant capacity than many other fruits and vegetables, even a small quantity of black raspberries added to the diet can significantly increase total antioxidant consumption. As few as four average sized berries (2.5 g each) has a greater antioxidant capacity than 100g (3.5 oz.) of many fruits and vegetables. With this level of antioxidant power, black raspberries can be an affordable, low-calorie source of antioxidant in anyone’s diet.”

Many studies have shown an association between diets high in fruits and vegetables and a lower incidence of some degenerative diseases. Plants high in antioxidants, like anthocyanins, are believed to help protect our bodies by neutralizing unstable oxygen molecules, which can damage our cells. Anthocyanins are the deep blue, purple and red color pigments in plants. Berries, especially raspberries, are great sources for anthocyanins. In this study from Cornell, they found that the black raspberry is loaded, really loaded, with anthocyanins compared to most other fruits and vegetables.
Take a look at this chart from the study:
While black raspberries are so much more than just high in antioxidants, they are a great way to get some extra healthy nutrition in your daily diet, and our powders and extracts make it even easier to get powerful black raspberries year-round.
